New Year + New Resolutions = Progress! Yesterday, I got a voicemail message from the Child Welfare Agency social worker. Per her message, she was calling to check in if we still want to proceed with our adoption plans from the foster care agency. That one left me scratching my head because she is the one who has not written up our home study report though our last meeting was in October! Numerous classes, numerous homestudy visits, lots of inefficiencies from the agency etc, etc, and we still hang on and she wonders if we are still on? She thought I might not have been in touch because of the holidays??? Did she not mean she has not written the home study report because of the holidays????? Okay, I know that this is in keeping with the agency's policy not to acknowledge their inefficiency and ineptitude, but still! However, I still see this as progress since I have always been the one to initiate any calls regarding the process. I was actually pretty surprised at getting a call. Good thing she did not get to speak to me because she might have reconsidered our suitability to be parents because I am sure my surprise at her initiating a call, and then proceeding to ask me if we still wanted to pursue adoption would have made me totally incoherent!
I am keeping my resolution to be praying for the social workers who are charged with protecting and advocating for the abused and abandoned children in my county. I am praying daily that their hearts would not be jaded, but would give 200% to meet the best interests of the children.

Did she even inerview you guys? Doesn't she know that she is asking a silly question? "do you still want to adopt?" Um...hellooooo! We'll keep praying for you guys!
Thanks for leaving a message on my blog! I agree with you, reading your blog is like reading my own :) Are you working through CPS or an agency? Our agency has been frustrating as well. I look forward to following your story! I hope we can keep in touch.

Brandi, we are working with CPS and I guess that is why I get frustrated because that is the agency that should be most aware of the pressing need to place the foster care children in loving, permanent homes. I can't tell you how many programs I have watched on our local t.v channel where the local foster care agency stresses how they are not able to recruit foster and adoptive parents! I think they should do a program detailing the hurdles they make prospective parents go through :)

Holly Schlaack does a great job of training reader in her book Invisible Kids (www.InvisibleKidsTheBook.com) without them even knowing it. I was so engrossed in the stories of foster children that I didn't recognize I was learning important information about the lifelong affect of abuse and neglect on children as the rest of society.
